Donald Trump looks into canceling GOP debate he's set to host (just as Sarah endorsed it, lol)

With the wheels coming off the GOP debate he is supposed to host, Donald Trump admitted Friday that he’s looking into canceling the sparsely-attended forum.

But Trump, in a typical display of chutzpah, said there’s another reason why he might pull the plug - he still may run for President.

“If the Republican, in my opinion, is not the right candidate [to defeat President Obama\],” Trump declared, “I am unwilling to give up my right to run as an independent candidate.”

He also claimed that several GOP candidates told him they’d only do the December 27 debate if Trump vowed to not launch a late bid for the White House once “The Apprentice” was off the air.

Trump refused.

“I must leave all of my options open,” the flamboyant real estate magnate said in a statement released Friday, “because above all else, we must make America great again!

Ah, Donny's giving the excuse why all but Gingrich and Santorum refused to the debate.....otherwise they all would have come...they just didn't his competition....ROTFL.

Their decision to skip the event has damaged Trump’s reputation as a GOP kingmaker - and it was Michele Bachmann’s refusal that appeared to wound The Donald most of all.

“She came up to see me four times,” Trump said. “She would call me and ask me for advice. She said if she wins, she would like to think about me for the Vice Presidency.”

Yeppers.....now that his chance of being a 'real' Kingmaker has been dashed, and his ego stumped into a pulp, Trump wants to pick up his debate and go home. I mean, what kind of contest could you hope for with just Gingrich the Great Adulterer, and Santorum the More than Stupid, as the only two candidates to debate world affairs and the real needs of the American people.

What a shame. And this right after his lap dog Palin endorsed it too!

I am wondering at this late date he can cancel it, it's just a couple of weeks away. But, I am sure Trump has enough money to buy off Newsmax. They obviously work cheap.

Lebowsky - #1.23 - That would make for very good entertainment, and about as good as it would get with that group.

I picture all 3 dressed in clown suits. Trump strutting around the stage in over-sized baggy pants, imperiously waving a red-white and blue flag, with the very smug look on is face. Santorum kneeling on one side of the stage pounding his Bible like crazy, and Newt with a big red nose ambling aback and forth across the stage ogling all the women in the audience and drooling while making the sign of the cross.

At any rate, it should make for a very pathetic event.

Rachel I seeded an article in which recently voting Republicans were asked to name one person running for the GOP nomination. 26% couldn't name anyone. High on the list from the others was Donald Trump, and some guessed Sarah Palin.

38% of the Democrats were unable, but well, WE won't be voting in the Republican primaries.

Yes there is a debate tonight with a national television audience! :o) Oh Boy

An increasing rivalry between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney is expected to garner the most attention, even though four other White House contenders will also be on the stage. This will be the first debate since Gingrich passed Romney to take a big leads in Republican polling in Iowa and New Hampshire. Gringrich has not had to participate rigorously in previous debates because he was trailing badly in polling, but things are expected to change in tonight's debate from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

John Huntsman is not expected to to participate this evening.

The debate, to be televised by ABC, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Mountain Time - Boise Weekly

My questions with so many seeds about this so called debate:

1.) Where are all the right wing posters?

2.) Why are they NOT defending having Mr. Trump as the moderator of this so called debate?

3.) What do they think about having so many of their candidates dropping out of this debate?

4.) What do they think about the two remaining candidates who said that they would attend this debate?

5.) What do they think about having Ms. Palin endorse this debate?

Could it be that they are just a bit ashamed of the GOP for letting this reality TV host be the moderator of what is a very serious matter to the nation and turned it into a farce?

His birther comments and his lack of credibility in the political arena (will he or won't he run for president) has with any hope tarnished the Trump brand and just maybe his reality show will take a hit in the ratings, now that would be icing on the cake and a sign that his 15 hours of fame is finally up.

" tarnished the Trump brand and just maybe his reality show will take a hit in the ratings"

Shhhhhhh!!!!! That would mean that he would jump back into the political arena for another shot at the Presidency to try and raise his viewer ratings. Surely, there could be nothing about himself that would turn off viewers. It has to be the fault of those ungrateful, stupid candidates who spurned his invitation to join his 3 ring flea circus to allow Trump to make even bigger fools of themselves at their own expense.

Poor Bachmann....now she did it. She has no one of any 'real' intelligence to turn to now for expert help with her campaign. Hey Suz: I'm back from Wikki-Wikki-Stan-Stan with an apology. The expression is properly "by his own petard." The reason is even funnier than suspected. It seems, according to
Wikki, that a petard is a bomb whose name comes from a middle French word for passing gas. So being hoisted by one's own petard means literally being blown upward by ones own bomb, or in Trump's case by his own flatulence. Of course the sarcasm is intended to mean that one is caught a problem of his own making.

Too good to be true!

From the Urban dictionary:

petard
a device contrived to hurt another person; boobytrap; an explosive contraption used in warfare to blow in a door or form a breach in a wall.
to "hoist by one's own petard" means you have been hurt or caught by the very device that you intended to hurt someone else. This phrase is often used mockingly, as if to say that you stepped in your own mess.

That was one great laugh, Susi, score!

The Donald is throwing a party and hardly anybody has accepted his invitation. He probably intended to make another faux run for the presidency anyway after the debate, but now he has to cancel the ludicrous debate plan or be embarrassed by the empty chairs. There is only one face saving way for him to avoid cancelling because of no-shows. He has to suddenly say that he has changed his mind and isn't doing the debate because he has decided to run himself. Get ready America. Here comes the comb over for one more self-promoting attempt to look like a candidate instead of just a fool. He has to get it all done before the new season of his T.V. show, so this will be a very brief episode of Candidate Trump just like the last one was.

By the way, any person who would pretend to hold a political debate on that vile NewsMax network cannot be taken seriously accept as a bigot and a conspiracy theorist. That is their stock in trade. They make Fox News look like the choir from St. Patrick's.

Maybe but Paul, Huntsman, Perry, and Romney all did the right thing in this instance. Give them a little credit at least.

Wow....did that bring back memories of some of the stunts we used to pull at parties when I was a youngster! One was similar to the stunt you mentioned. :-)

Call that weak, now he is turning it into something else. Lets say everybody shows up, would he be saying what he is saying now? NO, i don't think so.

Trump is probably just starting to realize that his Presidential campaign was the end of his celebrity career. Going on TV for weeks and weeks spreading a demonizing lie about the President, and then getting punk'd by reality, is probably having a huge effect on people who used to sort of like him, but now cannot stand the sight of his fat, bigoted face on TV.

I would hope that like Sarah Palin, we hear less and less of Trump until he just falls into his own black hole and @!$%#s off permanently.

Please, Please, PLEASE!! run as an independent... you can split off the rabid "birther" and Teapublican votes and help to hand the Republicans an even more humilitating defeat in 2012...

The Donald should run..... but not for Pres. Well, that's that. What's next? I'm sure that is what everyone wants to know. Who is left to offend? What should we cut next? What program should we close? Whose closet door is slowly opening and what will be inside?

Stay tuned, the saga continues...

I read that too, and thought, "Good grief. He verbally bitch slaps the President, calls him all sorts of names, brings back the Birther nonsense, then boasts that "he" forced the President to publicly post his long form birth certificate, saying "he" was the only person who had been able to do that, and blasted the President with all sorts of other lies and insults, then has the guts to bitch that the President didn't invite him to the White House? I don't think so!"

Exactly, rescue, and he is his own worst enemy. His arrogance, big mouth and disrespect for the American people will be his undoing. He has a button that he is daring anyone to push, and someone will push it soon, and he will be his own undoing.

I didn't get it until you mentioned it.

I wonder how Newt with his adultery, sick wife abandonment, ethics violations would debate someone who doesn't believe in birth control, and the missionary position is the only way to do it?.....then they're Trump with his own adultery and bankruptcy and fraud issues....I might ever moderate it myself. lol

Of course, if the Donald decides to cancel it, he will make a big to-do about it. He will probably set a date to "announce a decision" and be in the news every day up to that time. He is an attention whore and just can't help himself.
