The tribute to Whitney Houston at the Grammys, a great memory to a wonderful singer
....by a wonderful singer
For anyone with fond memories of Whitney Houston and her extraordinary talent,...a beautiful tribute.
A beautiful "tribute"
No,
a carbon copy performance to further her own career. Tacky. Hudson does most of her singing in a completely different octave. She's not a contralto, like Whitney Houston. Her voice is higher, normally.
She made a spectacle, attempting to claim the song as her own, all th while singing it exactly as Houston once sang it. I found that mildly disrepectful to Houston's memory.
I see her singing like Whitney was a tribute to her, but we will have to agree to disagree.
Well, maybe the mimicry will help her achieve fame. Who knows? I bet she's hoping it will anyway. Copying an original just looks kind of weak to me.
She's doing quite well on her own.
She won a Grammy Award for her eponymous debut album, Jennifer Hudson, which was released in 2008 on Arista Records and was certified gold by the RIAA for selling over 800,000 copies in the US; sales exceeded 1 million copies worldwide. Additionally, it spawned the hit single Spotlight. Her second album I Remember Me was released in March 2011, and has reached number two on the Billboard 200, selling 165,000 copies in its first week of release.[
Hudson has garnered 29 awards from film critics as Best Supporting Actress and Breakthrough Performer of 2006. She won the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In addition, she has been named Best Supporting Actress by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and also by the Screen Actors Guild.
Well if she's doing so well on her own, why strategically copy Whitney Houston and then be a phony and call it a "tribute"? SMH.
We can agree to disagree. People who didn't grow up with Houston's music (I did) will probably find Hudson's music immensely talented. She does have talent, I'll grant you that.. She seems to be a hard worker. That will take her far. But attaining the level of Whitney Houston? Maybe she should just forget about that and concentrate on on staying true artistically to who Jennifer Hudson is. People familliar with Houston's music can tell the difference, if no one else can, or wants to.
Sorry the above should have been put in brackets and it posted before I was finished.
