The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an 18-month-old boy who appears to have died from extreme malnourishment and dehydration. Six other children have been removed from the home by children’s services and four of them have since been admitted to a Cleveland hospital for a number of fairly complex medical issues.
Five of the seven children “suffer from various severe physical and mental handicaps that require around-the-clock care,” deputies were told by the children’s parents, Adrienne Bartholomew, 34, and James Brothers, 33.
“Malnourishment is is one of the overarching problems for all four of them,” said Chief Deputy Jared Oliver. “There was a 6-year-old that weighs 23 pounds.”
A paramedic stated that the child, Isaac Bartholomew, was deceased when she arrived Tuesday at about 7:13 p.m.
