Woke up yesterday, started walking down the hall, and heard a very loud whooshing sound....walked toward the kitchen, family room area and suddenly discovered myself "splashing through a puddle"...a puddle that encompassed my kitchen, part of the family room, my laundry room, garage, storage room, and the side of my house.
Oh yessssss, something is leaking. Fortunately I have a thingumabob that allowed me to turn off the water at the street....but of course I have to get the concrete cover off first. Now remember I'm just out of bed, so I'm in my burgundy robe, hair not combed, teeth not brushed, clearly looking my best to be out and about in the neighborhood.....just when kids are walking to school and people going to work are driving by......yes, look at the crazy lady, barefooted in her robe yelling at the sidewalk .
So I go back to my sink area, and everything is very quiet.....and I hear a gnaw.
Well I need to back track a little to discuss my cats. They don't kill mice, they like to bring them in the house to play. They let them run, chase, step on tail to stop them, let them run, and chase....great fun.
I, on the other hand, try to save the mice because it seems such a cruel game. The last time this happened I rescued the mouse who had hidden in a antique doll cradle under a tiny satin blanket which was mine when I was an infant. I took the mouse out back, and tried to toss it in the bushes to allow it a head start on the cat. Unfortunately I lost my balance, fell backwards on a large planter pot and broke my clavicle.
I suspect the last mouse I tried to rescue from the cat went into my cabinets...:(
Back to my "leak"
Called AAA, my homeowners insurance, which by the way is THE BEST, when it comes to claims but that a whole other story.
They sent a plumber out, and yes, the water line to the refrigerator had been gnawed, and the mouse had used the insulation around the dishwasher and back of the refrigerator to build a nest.
The mouse, however is nowhere to be found....but clearly it has relocated SOMEWHERE.
The team came out to clear the water, and the walls are damp in the living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, laundry room, garage and storage room.....all because of a mouse.
Now a team has to come out to check the walls for asbestos (which I know they will find because it's an older house) and the things have to be packed up first, so the "abatement team" can come in, but the pod can't be delivered until Thursday, which is where everything is going to be packed up and stored.....however it's supposed to be raining on Thursday so they aren't going to be able to move the stuff which delays the abatement team who then comes in, drapes all the rooms in plastic and cuts away the affected walls.............Then the reconstruction people can come in and start fixing things.
Did I mention my cats are totally freaked out already because of the sounds of the machines (gads, my electric bill)...so Rescue, my new golden is being fed in the living room, Tattoo, the cat is being fed in the main bathroom (did I mention that the light switch in that room broke, AND the oak toilet seat broke in two pieces all in the same day.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, so I have a Christmas tree up with no ornaments because they are wet, and Christmas lights on the house which I can't light because it will blow a fuse with all the machines going.
