An elderly California woman is fighting for her life after being attacked by two pit bulls Thursday morning. 

The woman, who's name has not be released by authorities, was walking to her mailbox when the dogs attacked her at roughly 11 a.m.

The dogs were fenced inside neighbor Juan Ortiz's yard, but dug their way out.

Ortiz told reporters he's stunned by the attack and that his dogs have no history of violence. 

'My dogs were not for fighting,' he said. 'They were family dogs, indoor dogs.'

'I have a 2-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son, 6-year-old son and a 13-year-old son that play with them, they’ve been with them since they were puppies,
