I was sitting here trying to remember which gift stuck in my mind after low so many years.
When I was in the 7th grade I had my "first love" His name was Conard Phillips and he played football. We spent months passing each other in the hallway, and shyly smiling, but neither brave enough to speak. Sometimes we would stand on opposite sides of the hallway before classes., he with his friends, and me with mine, and there would be furtive glances. Yes there was a time like that. (over 50 years ago)....Gads, I can't believe all that time has passed.
On weekends I was bereft because I couldn't see him....in the hallway, ......passing by.
On Valentines Day, he walked pass and slipped me a Valentines Day card....didn't stop to speak, or even look at me, just slipped it in my hand. It had 2 skunks on it, with hearts and flowers, and something about "pitching woo"....I ran to my classroom, hyperventilating and burst into tears....I may still even have the card.
We finally started talking and going on "dates" if you consider going out for sodas dating.
Now I come to Christmas. He gave me a small music box, with a ballerina in pink on the top, who would turn as the music played play. It wasn't an expensive gift, or even particularly attractive, but I still remember it after all these years, and my guess is it's still in a box in my attic.
Now for you all....what Christmas present do you remember most....and was it a positive or negative memory.
You can even tell why it was so memorable.
